Life often throws us curveballs which we are not always prepared for. Major or sudden changes within our lives can result in negative emotions or changes to our mental health. As humans we thrive when we have a daily routine. When things change suddenly it can be more difficult to cope with everyday life.
Changes in life are inevitable no matter how much we try to avoid them. Major life changes can include losing a loved one, moving to a new place, losing or starting a job, marriage, divorce or separation, introducing a baby into the family, buying a house, injury or sickness and more. People react to change differently. While someone may react negatively to something, someone else might cope well with the very same change. Variation in the way we respond is quite normal. Not everyone is able to embrace change whether it be good or bad.
When major change occurs, the usual coping strategies may not be enough to provide sufficient adjustment.
This conflicting situation leads naturally to the response built into our Central Nervous System and we become stressed and even more, compromise our ability to cope with situations. It is not uncommon for major life changes to have a significant impact on our day-to-day functions. In such situations struggling with adjustment is normal. Oftentimes a person just needs support and someone to talk to about their feelings and concerns, it’s when these changes start affecting a persons’ mental health that they should seek help.
We provide effective treatment for people that are suffering with adapting and adjusting to major life changes. Talking about these issues can be extremely effective alongside professional treatment. We work with our patients to guide them and provide them with a safe and comfortable space to share their experiences.
